Dr. Gary Brown
Medical Director
Dr. Gary Brown received his undergraduate BS degree from West Virginia University and his DVM from the University of Georgia in 1984. He is the founder of Animal Care Center, which he opened in 1990.
He has always been active in enhancing the education experience. He has been on multiple High School and College boards as well as mentoring veterinary students and others. Since 1998, Dr. Brown has been in a variety of leadership roles both professionally and locally. He has served West Virginia’s VMA as Regional Representative, President elect, President and has been WVVMA’s Delegate to AVMA 7 years. In 2008 he was elected as AVMA Vice President and served two terms (2008-2010). Always active, he continued these activities as well as serving on the Mercer County Airport Authority and several other energetic groups.
In 2013, Dr. Brown has been honored with the West Virginia VMA Veterinarian of the Year and the Virginia VMA/Maryland VMA/VMRCVM Mentor of the Year awards. Professionally, Dr. Brown also belongs to the Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio VMA’s, Society for Theriogenology, Laser Society and American Animal Hospital Association.
An enthusiastic aviator, he holds both helicopter and fixed wing licenses. In addition, Dr. Brown also belongs to the Harley Owners Group, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Antique Automobile Club of America, Family Motor Coach Association and the Italian Greyhound Club of America.
Dr. Brown is married to Mitzi M. Brown. They have multiple champion Italian Greyhounds as well as other rescued dogs, cats, peacocks and chickens.
Dr. Danny Montgomery
Dr. Montgomery grew up in Preston Co, WV. He received his Bachelor of Science from WVU and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. After graduating, Dr. Montgomery began practicing at Animal Care Center.
He is married to his lovely wife Amy and has two wonderful children, Alex and Edward. He is a member of Organized Veterinary Medicine on the national and state levels.
He is currently the President of the West Virginia Veterinary Medical Association and a founding member of the West Virginia Veterinary Foundation. He is an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 1 of Princeton and a committee member of Pack 10 of Princeton. He is actively involved with the Lions Club and is the President of the Pearisburg Lions Club.
Dr. Jessica Ferrell-Blankenship
Dr. Ferrell joined Animal Care Center in 2014. She is a West Virginia native, born and raised in McDowell County. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Concord University in 2009 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014.
She is a member of the national and state veterinary medical associations and has been the Region 5 Representative with the West Virginia Veterinary Medical Association since 2018.
Outside of work, Dr. Ferrell enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband and two amazing children. She also has many pets of her own to keep her company and keep her busy.
